The hand model of the brain, developed by Daniel Siegel, is a way to visualise the different parts of the brain and how they interact with each other. The upstairs brain refers to the thinking part of the brain, responsible for decision-making and rational thinking. The downstairs brain refers to the more primitive and reactive part of the brain, responsible for our emotional responses and automatic functions, such as breathing and heart rate.

The Hand Model of Your Brain poster is designed to illustrate how the upstairs and downstairs brain work together - with the upstairs brain influencing the downstairs brain and vice versa, to create cohesive and adaptive behaviour. This model helps to show children how the different parts of their brain work together to produce behaviour and responses.
